Genesis 11:10-32
Read verses 10-26
1) Shem (100) the father of Arphachad (vs 10-11) and lived 500 years old
2) Arphachad the father of Shelah (vs 12-13) age 35 lived 403
3) Shelah the father of Eber or Hebrew (vs 14-15) age 30 lived 403
4) Eber the father of Peleg (vs 16-17) age 34 lived 430
5) Peleg the father of Reu or friend of God (vs 18-19) age 32 lived 209
6) Reu the father of Serug or descendant (vs 20-21) age 32 lived 207
7) Serug the father of Nahor (vs 22-23) age 30 lived 200
8) Nahor the father of the Terah (vs 24-25) age 29 lived 119
9) Terah the father of Abram, Nahor and Haran or mountaineer or sanctuary (vs 26) age 70. Died most probably 135 years old.
What was the purpose of all these names? What was the focus of the passage?
First, God was not finished saving people by naming the people who would carry the light of God to the world.
Second, God chose specific people according to His sovereign choice where the Seed would come from.
Third, people were and are still today depraved and corrupt and unholy that we need a Saviour in this world to appease the Holy God.
Fourth, no amount of good works or animal sacrifices or religious commitment can save people from sin. Only the sacrificial death of a blameless sinless holy man can save man. Life on earth is not getting better is getting worse and shorter.
Fifth, examples of people who have faith in God and walked with and lived by faith in God.
Sixth, any person can be saved regardless of what tribe nation race or culture they belong to. Putting their faith in the Messiah the promised Seed will be saved. Seventh, People must know God’s plan for us, is to be with Him in paradise for eternity.
Focus on the family of Abram (vs 27-32)
27 Now these are the generations of Terah. Terah became the father of Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran became the father of Lot.
Genesis 11:28-30
28 And Haran died in the presence of Terah his father in the land of his birth, in Ur of the Chaldeans. 29 Abram and Nahor took wives for themselves. The name of Abram’s wife was Sarai; and the name of Nahor’s wife was Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah and the father of Iscah. 30 And Sarai was barren; she had no child.
Genesis 11:31
31 And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran, his grandson, and Sarai his daughter-in-law, his son Abram’s wife; and they went out together from Ur of the Chaldeans in order to go to the land of Canaan; and they came as far as Haran and settled there.
Genesis 11:32
32 And the days of Terah were 205 years; and Terah died in Haran.

Acts 7:2–4
2 And he said, “Hear me, brethren and fathers! The God of glory appeared to our father Abraham when he was in Mesopotamia, before he lived in Haran, 3 and said to him, ‘Leave your country and your relatives, and come into the land that I will show you.’ 4 “Then he left the land of the Chaldeans and settled in Haran. From there, after his father died, God had him move to this country in which you are now living.
Genesis 15:7
7 And He said to him, “I am the Lord who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldeans, to give you this land to possess it.”
Genesis 12:1-4.
“1 Now the Lord said to Abram,“Go forth from your country, And from your relatives And from your father’s house, To the land which I will show you; 2 And I will make you a great nation, And I will bless you, And make your name great; And so you shall be a blessing; 3 And I will bless those who bless you, And the one who curses you I will curse. And in you all the families of the earth will be blessed.” 4 So Abram went forth as the Lord had spoken to him; and Lot went with him. Now Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran.”
Galatians 3:8
8 The Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham, saying, “All the nations will be blessed in you.”

Chapter 10 We learned God scattered the sons of Noah’s sons on the earth. We saw new nations, kingdoms and languages.
Chapter 11. We will learn about the rebellion of men who disregarded God and His commands. But God will focus on one man of God amongst the pagan world.
“There is here the universe in its origin, the origin of time, action, space, matter. There is the origin of the solar system. There is the origin of the atmosphere, the origin of the hydrosphere. There is the origin of all life. There is the origin of mankind. There is the origin of marriage. There is the origin of the family. There is the origin of sin, and the origin of guilt, and the origin of redemption, and the origin of forgiveness. There is the origin of culture and civilisation and animal husbandry and metallurgy and other enterprises, the origin of poetry, the origin of music. There is the origin of nations. There is the origin of languages. And all of that runs up through the eleventh chapter, so that when you arrive in chapter twelve, you have the origin of the chosen people, through whom the Word of God and the Savior of the world would come.” John Macarthur Genesis 11:1-9 message.
“We are very much aware of the fact that the world in which we live believes in evolution. They believe in the evolution of the universe. They believe in the evolution of biological life. They believe in the evolution of man. They believe in the evolution of everything else. They believe in the evolution of intellect. They believe in the evolution of sociology. They believe in the evolution of nations. They believe in the evolution of language. They believe in the evolution of everything. But the Bible believes and teaches the evolution of nothing.” John Macarthur, sermon of Genesis 11:1-9.
1 ) Man’s Plan: One world Society (Genesis 11:1-4)
1 Now the whole earth had the same language and the same words.
2 And it happened as they journeyed east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar and settled there.
3 Then they said to one another, “Come, let us make bricks and burn them thoroughly.” And they had brick for stone, and they had tar for mortar.
4 And they said, “Come, let us build for ourselves a city, and a tower whose top will reach into heaven, and let us make for ourselves a name, lest we be scattered over the face of the whole earth.”
2) God’s evaluation: Man rejected the Word of God (Genesis 11:5-6)
5 Then Yahweh came down to see the city and the tower which the sons of men had built.
6 And Yahweh said, “Behold, they are one people, and they all have the same language. And this is what they have begun to do. So now nothing which they purpose to do will be impossible for them.
3) God’s Judgement: Disunity and salvation of men
(Genesis 11:7-9)
7 “Come, let Us go down and there confuse their language, so that they will not understand one another’s language.”
8 So Yahweh scattered them from there over the face of the whole earth; and they stopped building the city.
9 Therefore its name was called Babel, because there Yahweh confused the language of the whole earth; and from there Yahweh scattered them over the face of the whole earth.
Hebrews 11:1-6
1 Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. 2 For by it the men of old gained approval. 3 By faith we understand that the worlds were prepared by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things which are visible. 4 By faith Abel offered to God a better sacrifice than Cain, through which he obtained the testimony that he was righteous, God testifying about his gifts, and through faith, though he is dead, he still speaks. 5 By faith Enoch was taken up so that he would not see death; AND HE WAS NOT FOUND BECAUSE GOD TOOK HIM UP; for he obtained the witness that before his being taken up he was pleasing to God. 6 And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him. (Hebrews 11:1-6 NASB)
What can we learn from these people/nations? What is the purpose of the genealogy?
1 There is only one race. We are all came from the three sons of Noah.
2 God blessed the nations to be fruitful and enjoy the land.
3 God located the locations of the godly and ungodly family lines for us.
4 There is a Seed whom God had chosen to save sinners like you and me.
5 There is a family who calls upon the name of the Lord. God wants us to be part of that family. Are you a family who builds your own nation apart from God? or are you a family who builds your house and family in the Lord?
6 It points us to God the Creator Jesus Christ.
7 God wants us to be part of the family of faith. By having faith in Christ alone. Every person whatever culture you and I were exposed to and nation you belong to, He wants you and me to be saved.
8 One day and it is coming soon, God will establish His Kingdom on the earth and all the nations of the world will bow down to Him and worship Him.
GENESIS 9:8-17
8 Then God spoke to Noah and to his sons with him, saying, 9 "Now behold, I Myself do establish My covenant with you, and with your descendants after you; 10 and with every living creature that is with you, the birds, the cattle, and every beast of the earth with you; of all that comes out of the ark, even every beast of the earth. 11 I establish My covenant with you; and all flesh shall never again be cut off by the water of the flood, neither shall there again be a flood to destroy the earth." 12 God said, "This is the sign of the covenant which I am making between Me and you and every living creature that is with you, for all successive generations; 13 I set My bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a sign of a covenant between Me and the earth. 14 It shall come about, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow will be seen in the cloud, 15 and I will remember My covenant, which is between Me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and never again shall the water become a flood to destroy all flesh. 16 When the bow is in the cloud, then I will look upon it, to remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth." 17 And God said to Noah, "This is the sign of the covenant which I have established between Me and all flesh that is on the earth." (Genesis 9:8, NASB)
1. The sons of Noah (vs 18-19)
18 Now the sons of Noah who went out of the ark were Shem and Ham and Japheth; and Ham was the father of Canaan. 19 These three were the sons of Noah, and from these the whole earth was scattered abroad.
2. The Sin of Noah (vs 20-23)
20 Then Noah began to be a man of the land and planted a vineyard. 21 And he drank of the wine and became drunk and uncovered himself inside his tent. 22 Then Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father and told his two brothers outside. 23 But Shem and Japheth took the garment and laid it upon both their shoulders and walked backward and covered the nakedness of their father; and their faces were turned backward, so that they did not see their father’s nakedness.
3. The blessing and cursing of the sons of Noah (vs 24-27)
24 Then Noah awoke from his wine, and he knew what his youngest son had done to him. 25 So he said, “Cursed be Canaan; A servant of servants He shall be to his brothers.” 26 And he said, “Blessed be Yahweh, The God of Shem; And let Canaan be his servant. 27 “May God enlarge Japheth, And let him dwell in the tents of Shem; And let Canaan be his servant.”
4. The death of Noah (vs 28-29)
28 And Noah lived 350 years after the flood. 29 So all the days of Noah were 950 years, and he died.
MATTHEW 5:3-8
3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 4 “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. 5 “Blessed are the gentle, for they shall inherit the earth. 6 “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. 7 “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy. 8 “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
“Jonathan Edwards the first leader of the first great awakening. had one wife Sarah, had 11 children. By the 1900 the family had 1400 descendants: 13 college presidents, 65 professors, 100 lawyers, 30 judges, 66 physicians, 80 prominent public officials, 3 governors, 1 vice president of United states, 3 senators. With families of such learning and distinction, it’s no wonder the puritans did so much to shape the American mind and character. If modern evangelicals hope to leave the same powerful legacy, we need to realise that the task of culture building requires a long-term commitment, and we must focus on nurturing godly families to influence future generations.”
GENESIS 9:1-7
1 And God blessed Noah and his sons and said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth. 2 “And the fear of you and the terror of you will be on every beast of the earth and on every bird of the sky; with everything that creeps on the ground, and all the fish of the sea, into your hand they are given. 3 “Every moving thing that is alive shall be food for you; as with the green plant, I give all to you. 4 “However, flesh with its life, that is, its blood, you shall not eat. 5 “Surely I will require ayour lifeblood; bfrom every living thing I will require it. And from every man, from each man’s brother I will require the life of man. 6 “Whoever sheds man’s blood, By man his blood shall be shed, For in the image of God He made man. 7 “As for you, be fruitful and multiply; Swarm on the earth and multiply in it.”
Genesis 8:15-19
15 Then God spoke to Noah, saying, 16 “Go out of the ark, you and your wife and your sons and your sons’ wives with you. 17 “Bring out with you every living thing of all flesh that is with you, birds and animals and every creeping thing that creeps on the earth, that they may swarm on the earth, and that they may be fruitful and multiply on the earth.” 18 So Noah went out, and his sons and his wife and his sons’ wives with him. 19 Every beast, every creeping thing, and every bird, everything that moves on the earth, went out by their families from the ark.
Genesis 8:20-22
20 Then Noah built an altar to Yahweh and took of every clean animal and of every clean bird and offered burnt offerings on the altar. 21 And Yahweh smelled the soothing aroma; and Yahweh said to Himself, “I will never again curse the ground because of man, for the intent of man’s heart is evil from his youth; and I will never again strike down every living thing as I have done. “I will never again curse the ground because of man, for the intent of man’s heart is evil from his youth; and I will never again strike down every living thing as I have done.
GOD REMEMBERS HIS PEOPLE / Genesis 8:1-14
1 Then God remembered Noah and all the beasts and all the cattle that were with him in the ark; and God caused a wind to pass over the earth, and the water subsided. 2 Also the fountains of the deep and the floodgates of the sky were closed, and the rain from the sky was restrained; 3 and the water receded from the earth, going forth and returning, and at the end of 150 days the water decreased. 4 In the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, the ark rested upon the mountains of Ararat. 5 Now the water decreased steadily until the tenth month; in the tenth month, on the first day of the month, the tops of the mountains appeared.
6 Then it happened at the end of forty days, that Noah opened the window of the ark which he had made; 7 and he sent out a raven, and it went out flying back and forth until the water was dried up from the earth. 8 Then he sent out a dove from him, to see if the water was abated from the face of the land; 9 but the dove found no resting place for the sole of its foot, so it returned to him into the ark, for the water was on the surface of all the earth. Then he stretched out his hand and took it and brought it into the ark to himself. 10 Then he waited yet another seven days; and again he sent out the dove from the ark.
11 And the dove came to him toward evening, and behold, in its beak was a freshly picked olive leaf. So Noah knew that the water was abated from the earth. 12 Then he waited yet another seven days and sent out the dove; but it did not return to him again. 13 Now it happened in the six hundred and first year, in the first month, on the first of the month, the water was dried up from the earth. Then Noah removed the covering of the ark and looked, and behold, the surface of the ground was dried up. 14 In the second month, on the twenty-seventh day of the month, the earth was dry.
GENESIS 7:14-24
17 Then the flood came upon the earth for forty days, and the water increased and lifted up the ark, so that it rose above the earth. 18 The water prevailed and increased greatly upon the earth, and the ark floated on the surface of the water. 19 The water prevailed more and more upon the earth, so that all the high mountains everywhere under the heavens were covered. 20 The water prevailed fifteen cubits higher, and the mountains were covered. 21 All flesh that moved on the earth perished, birds and cattle and beasts and every swarming thing that swarms upon the earth, and all mankind; 22 of all that was on the dry land, all in whose nostrils was the breath of the spirit of life, died. 23 Thus He blotted out every living thing that was upon the face of the land, from man to animals to creeping things and to birds of the sky, and they were blotted out from the earth; and only Noah was left, together with those that were with him in the ark. 24 The water prevailed upon the earth one hundred and fifty days.
Key takeaways:
1. God's Judgment: The Great Flood underscores the reality of God's judgment on sin. It reminds us that our actions have consequences and that God's justice will prevail in the end.
2. God's Mercy: Despite the judgment brought by the Flood, God's mercy is also evident in the preservation of Noah and his family. This highlights God's faithfulness to those who are obedient and faithful to Him.
3. Faith and Obedience: Noah's unwavering faith and obedience to God's instructions serve as a model for us. It teaches us the importance of trusting in God, even when His plans may seem difficult or unconventional.
4. Renewal and Redemption: After the Flood, God made a promise to never flood earth again. This signifies God's commitment to renewal and redemption, offering hope for a new beginning.
5. Preparation and Trust: Just as Noah diligently prepared for the Flood by building the ark, we are called to prepare ourselves spiritually and trust in God's provision and protection during life's challenges. Reflecting on these lessons from the Great Flood can help us deepen our faith, work on our obedience to God's Word, and strive to live in alignment with His will.
Hebrews 11:7 “By faith Noah, being warned by God about things not yet seen, in reverence prepared an ark for the salvation of his household, by which he condemned the world, and became an heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.”
Genesis 7:6-16
6 Now Noah was six hundred years old when the flood of water came upon the earth. 7 Then Noah and his sons and his wife and his sons' wives with him entered the ark because of the water of the flood. 8 Of clean animals and animals that are not clean and birds and everything that creeps on the ground, 9 there went into the ark to Noah by twos, male and female, as God had commanded Noah. 10 It came about after the seven days, that the water of the flood came upon the earth. 11 In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, on the seventeenth day of the month, on the same day all the fountains of the great deep burst open, and the floodgates of the sky were opened. 12 The rain fell upon the earth for forty days and forty nights. 13 On the very same day Noah and Shem and Ham and Japheth, the sons of Noah, and Noah's wife and the three wives of his sons with them, entered the ark, 14 they and every beast after its kind, and all the cattle after their kind, and every creeping thing that creeps on the earth after its kind, and every bird after its kind, all sorts of birds. 15 So they went into the ark to Noah, by twos of all flesh in which was the breath of life. 16 Those that entered, male and female of all flesh, entered as God had commanded him; and the LORD closed it behind him. (NASB)
Hebrews 11:7 “By faith Noah, being warned by God about things not yet seen, in reverence prepared an ark for the salvation of his household, by which he condemned the world, and became an heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.”
The Righteousness of Noah (vs 1-5)
1 Then Yahweh said to Noah, “Enter the ark, you and all your household, for you alone I have seen to be righteous before Me in this generation. 2 “You shall take with you of every clean animal by sevens, a male and his female; and of the animals that are not clean, two, a male and his female; 3 also of the birds of the sky, by sevens, male and female, to keep their seed alive on the face of all the earth. 4 “For after seven more days, I will send rain on the earth forty days and forty nights; and I will blot out from the face of the land every living thing that I have made.” 5 And Noah did according to all that Yahweh had commanded him.
1) THE JUDGEMENT (VS 17)
17 “As for Me, behold I am bringing the flood of water upon the earth, to destroy all flesh in which is the breath of life, from under heaven; everything that is on the earth shall breathe its last.
2) THE COVENANT (VS 18-21)
18 “But I will establish My covenant with you; and you shall enter the ark—you and your sons and your wife and your sons’ wives with you. 19 “And of every living thing of all flesh, you shall bring two of every kind into the ark, to keep them alive with you; they shall be male and female. 20 “Of the birds after their kind, and of the animals after their kind, of every creeping thing of the ground after its kind, two of every kind will come to you to keep them alive. 21 “As for you, take for yourself some of all food which is edible, and gather it to yourself; and it shall be for food for you and for them.”
3) THE OBEDIENCE (VS 22)
22 Thus Noah did; according to all that God had commanded him, so he did.
Read Hebrews 11:7
John 15:10
9 These are the records of the generations of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, blameless in his time; Noah walked with God.
10Noah became the father of three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
11 Now the earth was corrupt in the sight of God, and the earth was filled with violence.
12 God looked on the earth, and behold, i0t was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted their way upon the earth.
13 Then God said to Noah, "The end of all flesh has come before Me; for the earth is filled with violence because of them; and behold, I am about to destroy them with the earth. (Genesis 6:9, NASB)
1 Now it came about, when men began to multiply on the face of the land, and daughters were born to them, 2 that the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful; and they took wives for themselves, whomever they chose. 3 Then the LORD said, "My Spirit shall not strive with man forever, because he also is flesh; nevertheless his days shall be one hundred and twenty years." 4 The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men, and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown. (Genesis 6:1, NASB)
1 Peter 3:18-20 says, “18 For Christ also died for sins once for all, the just for the unjust, so that He might bring us to God, having been put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit; 19 in which also He went and made proclamation to the spirits now in prison, 20 who once were disobedient, when the patience of God kept waiting in the days of Noah, during the construction of the ark, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were brought safely through the water.
2 Peter 2:4-7 “For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but cast them into hell and committed them to pits of darkness, reserved for judgment; 5 and did not spare the ancient world, but preserved Noah, a preacher of righteousness, with seven others, when He brought a flood upon the world of the ungodly; 6 and if He condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah to destruction by reducing them to ashes, having made them an example to those who would live ungodly lives thereafter; 7 and if He rescued righteous Lot, oppressed by the sensual conduct of unprincipled men.”
Jude 6-7 says, 6And angels who did not keep their own domain, but abandoned their proper abode, He has kept in eternal bonds under darkness for the judgment of the great day, 7 just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the cities around them, since they in the same way as these indulged in gross immorality and went after strange flesh, are exhibited as an example in undergoing the punishment of eternal fire.
1) God allowed the depravity of men to worsen (vs 23-24)
23 And Lamech said to his wives, “Adah and Zillah, Hear my voice, You wives of Lamech, Give ear to my word, For I have killed a man for striking me; And a boy for wounding me; 24 If Cain is avenged sevenfold, Then Lamech seventy-sevenfold.”
2) God accepts people who call upon His name (vs 25-26)
25 Then Adam knew his wife again; and she gave birth to a son and named him Seth, for she said “God has set for me another seed in place of Abel, for Cain killed him.” 26 And to Seth, to him also, a son was born; and he called his name Enosh. Then men began to call upon the name of Yahweh.
1 Corinthians 1:2 it says, 2 To the church of God which is at Corinth, to those who have been sanctified in Christ Jesus, saints by calling, with all who in every place call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, their Lord and ours:
Passage: Luke 3:38 says, “38 the son of Enosh, the son of Seth, the son of Adam, the son of God.”
1) God allowed Cain to have a secular family and a city (vs 17)
17 Then Cain knew his wife, and she conceived and gave birth to Enoch; and he built a city and called the name of the city Enoch, after the name of his son.
2) God allowed a family to build a godless city (vs 18-19)
18 Now to Enoch was born Irad, and Irad was the father of Mehujael, and Mehujael was the father of Methushael, and Methushael was the father of Lamech. 19 And Lamech took for himself two wives: the name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other, Zillah.
3) God allowed men to enjoy life apart from God (vs 20-22)
20 And Adah gave birth to Jabal; he was the father of those who live in tents and have livestock. 21 And his brother’s name was Jubal; he was the father of all those who play the lyre and pipe. 22 As for Zillah, she also gave birth to Tubal-cain, the forger of all implements of bronze and iron; and the sister of Tubal-cain was Naamah.
Revelation 18:21-22
21 Then a strong angel took up a stone like a great millstone and threw it into the sea, saying, “So will Babylon, the great city, be thrown down with violence, and will not be found any longer. 22 “And the sound of harpists and musicians and flute-players and trumpeters will not be heard in you any longer; and no craftsman of any craft will be found in you any longer; and the sound of a mill will not be heard in you any longer; 23 and the light of a lamp will not shine in you any longer; and the voice of the bridegroom and bride will not be heard in you any longer; for your merchants were the great men of the earth, because all the nations were deceived by your sorcery.
1) The unrepentant Heart (vs 9-12)
9 Then Yahweh said to Cain, “Where is Abel your brother?” And he said, “I do not know. Am I my brother’s keeper?” 10 And He said, “What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood is crying out to Me from the ground. 11 “And now, cursed are you from the ground, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hand. 12 “When you cultivate the ground, it will no longer yield its strength to you; you will be a vagrant and a wanderer on the earth.”
The true character of Cain
We can see his depravity and his sinful nature that he inherited from his parents. He chose to lie and hide his sin.
We can see his attitude towards God — no respect of God and no fear of God. We can see his decision and his resolve to live alone without God’s presence and blessing.
We can see his stubborn heart, unrepentant heart. No desire to confess his sin of murder.
We can see he chose to be the master and lord of his soul.
We can see his lack of empathy, compassion. His heart is apathy and indifference.
We can see he chose darkness more than light. He chose to live with the crouching lion and the serpent’s lie.
We can see his hardened heart and false worship and faith in God.
We can see his love for sin and hate for God and for his Abel.
We can see the heart of Cain was a stone heart compared with Adam and Eve. Cain was a lot worst sinner, a more depraved sinner than his parents.
4) The run away heart (vs 13-16)
13 And Cain said to Yahweh, “My punishment is too great to bear! 14 “Behold, You have driven me this day from the face of the ground; and from Your face I will be hidden, and I will be a vagrant and a wanderer on the earth, and it will be that whoever finds me will kill me.” 15 So Yahweh said to him, “Therefore whoever kills Cain, vengeance will be taken on him sevenfold.” And Yahweh appointed a sign for Cain, so that no one who found him would strike him. 16 Then Cain went out from the presence of Yahweh and settled in the land of Nod, east of Eden.
Vs 13 — A hard heart like Cain who sinned will be punished with great to bear. You better repent not to get the consequence of great pain.
Vs 14 — A hard heart like Cain have curses: driven from the face of the ground; and away from God’s face, a vagrant and a wanderer, and in danger of being killed.
Vs 15 — A hard heart like Cain will continue to live under the common grace of God and marked by God’s protection but being alive is not a convenient life, we will still live under a curse till we die. we will live in suffering and grief and sadness. We will be cast out away from the presence of God and chose to hide and to run away from God.
Vs 16 — A hard heart like Cain is to live in Nod. A place of wandering, place of the dead (hell), a place of curse and homelessness. It is opposite of the Garden of Eden a place of paradise, presence of God and the nearness of God. Place of blessing.
Philippians 1:21-26
21 For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. 22 But if I am to live on in the flesh, this will mean fruitful labor for me; and I do not know which to choose. 23 But I am hard-pressed from both directions, having the desire to depart and be with Christ, for that is very much better; 24 yet to remain on in the flesh is more necessary for your sake. 25 Convinced of this, I know that I will remain and continue with you all for your progress and joy in the faith, 26 so that your proud confidence in me may abound in Christ Jesus through my coming to you again.
1) God introduces a family of faith (vs 1-2)
1 Now the man knew his wife Eve, and she conceived and gave birth to Cain, and she said, “I have gotten a man with the help of Yahweh.” 2 And again, she gave birth to his brother Abel. Abel was a keeper of flocks, but Cain was a cultivator of the ground.
2) God accepts saving faith (vs 3-4)
3 So it happened in the course of time that Cain brought an offering to Yahweh of the fruit of the ground. 4 Abel, on his part, also brought of the firstborn of his flock and of their fat portions. And Yahweh had regard for Abel and for his offering; 5 but for Cain and for his offering He had no regard. So Cain became very angry, and his countenance fell.
3) God wants to save Cain and all sinners (vs 6-8)
6 Then Yahweh said to Cain, “Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen? 7 “If you do well, will not your countenance be lifted up? And if you do not do well, sin is lying at the door; and its desire is for you, but you must rule over it.” 8 Then Cain spoke to Abel his brother; and it happened when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother and killed him.
1 John 3:12-15 says,
“12 not as Cain, who was of the evil one and slew his brother. And for what reason did he slay him? Because his deeds were evil, and his brother’s were righteous. 13 Do not be surprised, brethren, if the world hates you. 14 We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brethren. He who does not love abides in death. 15 Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer; and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him.”
Romans 12:1-2
1 Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.
A.W. Pink said, “The type is perfect at every point. (1) Our Lord is a "shepherd"—the Good Shepherd—and (2) it was as the Shepherd He presented His offering to God (John 10:11). (3) Though giving no cause for it, He was hated by His brethren according to the flesh (John 15:25). (4) It was through "envy" that He was delivered up to be crucified (Matthew 27:18). (5) Our Lord did not die a natural death. He was "slain" by wicked hands (Acts 2:23). (6) He was crucified by "The House of Israel" (Acts 2:36), His own brethren according to the flesh. (7) After His death our Lord’s murderers were severely punished by God (Mark 12:9). Turning from Himself to His offering we note: (8) The Lord Jesus presented an offering "to God" (Eph. 5:2). (9) The offering He presented was Himself—a "Lamb" (1 Pet. 1:19). (10) In presenting Himself as an offering He honored and magnified the Will and Word of God (Heb. 10:7-9). (11) The offering Christ presented was an "excellent" one—it was a "sweet smelling savor" (Eph. 5:2). (12) God accepted His offering: the proof of this is seen in the fact that He is now seated at God’s right hand (Heb. 10:12). (13) While presenting Himself on the Cross as an offering to God, He "obtained witness that He was righteous "—the centurion crying, "Certainly this was a righteous man" (Luke 23:47). (14) God publicly testified His acceptance of Christ’s offering by raising Him from the dead (Acts 2:32). (15) Christ’s offering now "speaks" to God (Heb. 12:24). Pink, Arthur W.. Gleanings in Genesis (Arthur Pink Collection Book 27) (p. 86). Prisbrary Publishing. Kindle Edition.
1) The repentance of man (vs 20-21)
20 Now the man called his wife’s name Eve, because she was the mother of all the living. 21 Then Yahweh God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife, and He clothed them.
2) The salvation of God (vs 22-24)
22 Then Yahweh God said, “Behold, the man has become like one of Us to know good and evil; and now, lest he send forth his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat and live forever” 23 therefore Yahweh God sent him out from the garden of Eden, to cultivate the ground from which he was taken. 24 So He drove the man out; and at the east of the garden of Eden He stationed the cherubim and the flaming sword which turned every direction to guard the way to the tree of life.
The Keil & Delitzsch, the Hebrew commentator, says, “Man must till the ground in which he will, after a short span, decay. In the soil which he turns over with his spade, he has before his very eyes his origin and his future. You will die, you will suffer and you will die. But that suffering and that death which will free him to enter the presence of God becomes the source of his hope.” (Taken from John MacArthur’s message Genesis 3:20-24)
Galatians 6:9-10
9 Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary. 10 So then, awhile we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, and especially to those who are of the household of the faith.
d) The pain of man till death (vs 17-19)
17 Then to Adam He said, “Because you have listened to the voice of your wife and have eaten from the tree about which I commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat from it’; Cursed is the ground because of you; In pain you will eat of it All the days of your life. 18 “Both thorns and thistles it shall grow for you; And you will eat the plants of the field; 19 By the sweat of your face You will eat bread, Till you return to the ground, Because from it you were taken; For you are dust, And to dust you shall return.”
Who can replaced Adam? Or who can redeem us from this painful life?
Jesus Christ joined us in the curse:
He became a curse
He became a sin
He sweat with blood
He suffered and toiled and wounded
He became a man of sorrow acquainted with grief
He was crowned with thorns
He was hanged on a tree
He obeyed the Father
He drank the cup of the wrath of God
He died for our sin.
That is why the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus
Romans 8:18-21
18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us. 19 For the anxious longing of the creation waits eagerly for the revealing of the sons of God. 20 For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it, in hope 21 that the creation itself also will be set free from its slavery to corruption into the freedom of the glory of the children of God.
Ephesians 2:8-10
8 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; 9 not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. 10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.
Matthew 11:28-30
28 “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. 29 “Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 “For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
1 Corinthians 15:58
58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your toil is not in vain in the Lord.
Titus 2:9
“Urge bondslaves to be subject to their own masters in everything, to be well-pleasing, not argumentative. . .”
Colossians 3:22
“Slaves, in all things obey those who are your masters on earth, not with external service, as those who merely please men, but with sincerity of heart, fearing the Lord.”
Ephesians 6:5-8
5 Slaves, be obedient to those who are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in the sincerity of your heart, as to Christ; 6 not by way of eye service, as men-pleasers, but as slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart. 7 With good will render service, as to the Lord, and not to men, 8 knowing that whatever good thing each one does, this he will receive back from the Lord, whether slave or free.
THE CURSE OF THE FALL: The Serpent, the Devil, and the woman / Genesis 3:14-16
a) The curse of the serpent (vs 14-15)
14 And Yahweh God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this, Cursed are you more than any of the cattle, And more than every beast of the field; On your belly you will go, And dust you will eat All the days of your life;
b) The defeat of satan (vs 15)
15 And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her seed; He shall bruise you on the head, And you shall bruise him on the heel.”
c) The great pain of woman (vs 16)
16 To the woman He said, “I will greatly multiply Your pain and conception, In pain you will bear children; Your desire will be for your husband, And he will rule over you.”
1 Timothy 2:13-15
13 For it was Adam who was first created, and then Eve. 14 And it was not Adam who was deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression. 15 But women will be preserved through the bearing of children if they continue in faith and love and sanctity with self-restraint.
THE GREAT FALL OF MAN: Defining the Depravity of Man / Genesis 3:8-13
8 Then they heard the sound of Yahweh God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of Yahweh God in the midst of the trees of the garden. 9 Yahweh God called to the man and said to him, “Where are you?” 10 And he said, “I heard the sound of You in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.” 11 And He said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you not to eat?” 12 And the man said, “The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave to me from the tree, and I ate.” 13 Then Yahweh God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?” And the woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”
Genesis 3:1-7
1 Now the serpent was more crafty than any beast of the field which Yahweh God had made. And he said to the woman, “Indeed, has God said, ‘You shall not eat from any tree of the garden’?” 2 And the woman said to the serpent, “From the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat; 3 but from the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God said, ‘You shall not eat from it, and you shall not touch it, lest you die.’” 4 And the serpent said to the woman, “You surely will not die! 5 “For God knows that in the day you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” 6 Then the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was desirable to make one wise, so she took from its fruit and ate; and she gave also to her husband with her, and he ate. 7 And the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves loin coverings.
1) The reward of believing the resurrection of Christ (vs 19-23)
19 So while it was evening on that day, the first day of the week, and while the doors were shut where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in their midst and said to them, “Peace be with you.” 20 And when He had said this, He showed them both His hands and His side. The disciples then rejoiced when they saw the Lord. 21 So Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you; as the Father has sent Me, I also send you.” 22 And when He had said this, He breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 “If you forgive the sins of any, their sins have been forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they have been retained.”
2) The sin of not believing the resurrection of Christ (vs 24-25)
24 But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came. 25 So the other disciples were saying to him, “We have seen the Lord!” But he said to them, “Unless I see in His hands the imprint of the nails, and put my finger into the place of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe.”
3) The joy of believing the resurrection of Christ (vs 26-29)
26 And after eight days His disciples were again inside, and Thomas with them. Jesus came, the doors having been shut, and stood in their midst and said, “Peace be with you.” 27 Then He said to Thomas, “Bring your finger here, and see My hands; and bring your hand here and put it into My side; and do not be unbelieving, but believing.” 28 Thomas answered and said to Him, “My Lord and my God!” 29 Jesus said to him, “Because you have seen Me, have you believed? Blessed are those who did not see, and yet believed.”
1) The crowds sang Hosanna to the King (vs 12-16)
12 On the next day the large crowd who had come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, 13 took the branches of the palm trees and went out to meet Him, and began to shout, “Hosanna! BLESSED IS HE WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD, even the King of Israel.” 14 And Jesus, finding a young donkey, sat on it; as it is written, 15 “FEAR NOT, DAUGHTER OF ZION; BEHOLD, YOUR KING IS COMING, SEATED ON A DONKEY’S COLT.” 16 These things His disciples did not understand at the first; but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things were written about Him, and that they had done these things to Him.
The significance of the triumphal entry of Christ:
He is the King and LORD the Creator and Maker of heaven and earth.
His first public disclosure or announcement.
He is the Messiah A prophecy of Daniel and Zachariah (70 weeks and the riding on a donkey)
A public declaration. Those who believe will receive forgivingness of their sins and salvation
A show of obedience to the Father. Willing suffer and die for the sins of the world.
A sign of victory and fulfilment many prophecies
To see the work of the Holy Spirit regenerating true believers in Christ
2) The crowds testified the works of the King (vs 17-19)
17 So the crowd, who was with Him when He called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead, continued to bear witness about Him. 18 For this reason also the crowd went and met Him, because they heard that He had done this sign. 19 So the Pharisees said to one another, “You see that you are gaining nothing; look, the world has gone after Him.”
If these people will believe and worship Christ what should be their response:
Pray and sing to God, HOSANNA! I need help. I need a King and Lord of my life.
Believe Christ as KING, LORD and SAVIOUR
Seek Christ the True Healer of your souls
Seek and follow Christ wherever He is right now
Gain the death and resurrection of Christ
Let go of the world and its pleasures
Be faithful and fruitful for Christ
Fear God’s judgement
3) The King will die and be glorified (vs 18-23)
20 Now there were some Greeks among those who were going up to worship at the feast; 21 these then came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida of Galilee, and began to ask him, saying, “Sir, we wish to see Jesus.” 22 Philip came and told Andrew; Andrew and Philip came and told Jesus. 23 And Jesus answered them, saying, “The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified.
a) The death of the King will save many (vs 24)
24 “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.
b) They will suffer and die for the King (vs 25)
25 “He who loves his life loses it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it to life eternal.
c) They will follow the King (vs 26)
26 “If anyone serves Me, he must follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also; if anyone serves Me, the Father will honor him.
1) God provided Adam a rich garden (vs 10-14)
10 Now a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from there it divided and became four rivers. 11 The name of the first is Pishon; it is the one that went around the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold. 12 Now the gold of that land is good; the bdellium and the onyx stone are there. 13 And the name of the second river is Gihon; it is the one that went around the whole land of Cush. 14 And the name of the third river is Tigris; it is the one that went east of Asshur. And the fourth river is the Euphrates.
2) God commanded Adam how to live in Eden (vs 15-17)
15 Then Yahweh God took the man and set him in the garden of Eden to cultivate it and keep it. 16 And Yahweh God commanded the man, saying, “From any tree of the garden you may surely eat; 17 but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, you shall not eat from it; for in the day that you eat from it you will surely die.”
What Tree will you choose:
The First Tree (the tree of the knowledge of good and evil) or the last tree (the cross of Christ) by A.W. Pink
1) The first tree was planted by God but the second tree planted by man and put Christ on the tree
2) The first tree was pleasing in the eyes. The second tree was unpleasant and bloodied
3) The first tree it says, do not eat the knowledge of good and evil. But the second tree all are invited to the cross (bloodied and undesirable tree)
4) The first tree satan wants everyone to eat the fruit of the tree. But the second tree accept the tree on the cross
5) The first tree brought sin and death. Second tree offers forgiveness and salvation
6) The first tree Adam and Eve ate the fruit and was cast out from paradise but the second tree those who ate it will enter paradise.
3) God provided a helper and suitable for Adam (vs 18-20)
18 Then Yahweh God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone; I will make him a helper suitable for him.” 19 And out of the ground Yahweh God had formed every beast of the field and every bird of the sky, and He brought each to the man to see what he would call it; and whatever the man called a living creature, that was its name. 20 And the man gave names to all the cattle and to the birds of the sky and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found a helper suitable for him.
4) God brought a woman to Adam (vs 21-23)
21 So Yahweh God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and he slept; then He took one of his ribs and closed up the flesh at that place. 22 And Yahweh God fashioned the rib, which He had taken from the man, into a woman, and He brought her to the man. 23 Then the man said, “This one finally is bone of my bones, And flesh of my flesh; This one shall be called Woman, Because this one was taken out of Man.”
Matthew Henry’s comment comes closer to the spirit of the text. “Not made out of his head to top him, not out of his feet to be trampled upon by him, but out of his side to be equal with him, under his arm to be protected, and near his heart to be beloved.” Wenham, G. J. (1987). Genesis 1–15 (Vol. 1, p. 69). Word, Incorporated.
5) God made Adam and his wife one flesh (vs 24-25)
24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother, and cleave to his wife; and they shall become one flesh. 25 And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed.
What does it mean to become one flesh, naked and not ashamed:
You are glued together and stuck together for life.
It is final it is unconditional no condition.
You are a perfect match.
Each one of you is a gift from God. A perfect gift from above
Your body does not belong to you it belongs to your husband and the husband’s body belongs to her wife (1 Corinthians 7:4).
One heart for each other and one heart for God.
Serving together as one.
To become of flesh is to become one true family.
As true husband and wife in sexual union without guilt and shame.
Job 38:1-11
1 Then the Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind and said, 2 “Who is this that darkens counsel By words without knowledge? 3 “Now gird up your loins like a man, And I will ask you, and you instruct Me! 4 “Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth? Tell Me, if you have understanding, 5 Who set its measurements? Since you know. Or who stretched the line on it? 6 “On what were its bases sunk? Or who laid its cornerstone, 7 When the morning stars sang together And all the sons of God shouted for joy? 8 “Or who enclosed the sea with doors When, bursting forth, it went out from the womb; 9 When I made a cloud its garment And thick darkness its swaddling band, 10 And I placed boundaries on it And set a bolt and doors, 11 And I said, ‘Thus far you shall come, but no farther; And here shall your proud waves stop’?
1) God is Sovereign in all generations (vs 4)
4 These are the generations of the heavens and the earth when they were created, in the day that Yahweh God made earth and heaven.
2) God is sovereign in providing water on the earth (vs 5-6)
5 Now no shrub of the field was yet in the earth, and no plant of the field had yet grown, for Yahweh God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was no man to cultivate the ground. 6 But a stream would rise from the earth and water the whole surface of the ground.
3) God is sovereign in giving life to man (vs 7)
7 Then Yahweh God formed man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and so the man became a living being.
4) God is Sovereign in placing man in the garden (vs 8)
8 And Yahweh God planted a garden in Eden, toward the east; and there He placed the man whom He had formed.
5) God is Sovereign in providing for man (vs 9)
9 And out of the ground Yahweh God caused to grow every tree that is desirable in appearance and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
What tree will you choose in relation to the tree of the cross?
1) The first tree was planted by God but the second tree planted by man and hang Christ on the tree
2) The first tree was pleasing in the eyes. The second tree was unpleasant and bloodied
3) The first do not eat the knowledge of good and evil. But the second tree all are invited to eat the fruit of the bloodied and undesirable tree of Christ
4) The first tree satan wants everyone to eat the fruit of the tree. But the second tree eat the tree on the cross.
5) The first tree brought sin and death. Second tree offers forgiveness and salvation
6) The first tree Adam ate the fruit and was cast out from paradise but the second tree those who ate it will enter paradise.
Genesis 2:1-3
1 Thus the heavens and the earth were completed, and all their hosts. 2 And on the seventh day God completed His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. 3 Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because on it He rested from all His work which God had created in making it.
Characters of the seventh day:
1) God completed His perfect creation — He is the Creator of heaven and earth
2) God rested — satisfied with His own perfect creation and design
3) God blessed the seventh day as a testimony of His perfection and holiness
4) God made the seventh day an exalted day of remembrance
5) God revealed Himself as the sovereign Lord of heaven and earth
6) God exposes the idea that God is not dead and it is not billion year old world
7) God points us to the giver of true rest of our souls
8) God points us who to worship the Creator and the Saviour
9) God makes the seventh day as a pattern to come together for church assembly
10) God calls people to set apart from the world
11) God makes the seventh day to seek the Creator and the Saviour
12) God makes a covenant promise to give us eternal rest in heaven
13) God shows salvation and redemption cannot be attained by our commitment to Sabbath
14) God shows the seventh day is not the way to perfect life
15) The seventh day points us to the Creator and Redeemer Jesus Christ
16) The seventh day points us to have faith in Christ and be like Christ
17) The seventh day points us to seek to be holy and be separated from the world
Conclusion:
The sabbath or rest was made by and for God The Sabbath was a demonstration of His perfect and beautiful glorious creation.
The Sabbath was to show we are sinners and living in a wicked fallen and lost world The Sabbath was a show of our need of God and a Saviour.
The Sabbath was instituted by Moses that God is the law-giver.
The Sabbath was a guide for man live God’s standards
The Sabbath day is a pursuit of righteousness.
The Sabbath has ceased all religious rituals and practices that can gain them to heaven. All because of what Christ has done. The animal sacrifices, the temple the holy of holies, the priesthood everything in Judaism and its system ceased. He is the Lord of the sabbath. He is our priest. He is the perfect sacrifice. He is our temple. He is the holy of holies. He is the new covenant.
Jesus is the exalted one and must be exalted remembered and worshipped and served until He comes back again.
GENESIS 1:27-31
27And God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. 28God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that creeps on the earth.” 29Then God said, “Behold, I have given to you every plant yielding seed that is on the surface of all the earth, and every tree which has the fruit of the tree yielding seed; it shall be food for you; 30and to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the sky and to every thing that creeps on the earth which has life, I have given every green plant for food”; and it was so. 31And God saw all that He had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.
5) Fifth day, God created the fish and the birds (vs 20-23)
20 Then God said, “Let the waters swarm with swarms of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the face of the expanse of the heavens.” 21 And God created the great sea monsters and every living creature that moves, with which the waters swarmed after their kind, and every winged bird after its kind; and God saw that it was good. 22 Then God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let the birds multiply on the earth.” 23 And there was evening and there was morning, a fifth day.
What is in the heavens and in the earth?
First day — God created the light
Second day — God created the expanse of the universe (sky)
Third day — God created the dry land and plants and seeds
Fourth day — God created the sun, moon, and the stars
Fifth day — God created the fish and the birds
Sixth day — God created animals and man
Seventh day — God rested

ROMANS 1:18-32
18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, 19 because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them. 20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse. 21 For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22 Professing to be wise, they became fools, 23 and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures. 24 Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them. 25 For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. 26 For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, 27 and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error. 28 And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper, 29 being filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice; they are gossips, 30 slanderers, ahaters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, 31 without understanding, untrustworthy, unloving, unmerciful; 32 and although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also give hearty approval to those who practice them.
6) Sixth day, God created animals and man (vs 20-23)
24 Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth living creatures after their kind: cattle and creeping things and beasts of the earth after their kind”; and it was so. 25 God made the beasts of the earth after their kind, and the cattle after their kind, and every creeping thing of the ground after its kind; and God saw that it was good. 26 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness, so that they will have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
4) Fourth day, God created the Sun, moon and stars (vs 14-19)
14 Then God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night, and let them be for signs and for seasons and for days and years; 15 and let them be for lights in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth”; and it was so. 16 So God made the two great lights, the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night, and also the stars. 17 And God placed them in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth, 18 and to rule the day and the night, and to separate the light from the darkness; and God saw that it was good. 19 And there was evening and there was morning, a fourth day.
Martin Lloyd Jones said one of the finest preachers and expositors in England in 20th century said, “If the solar system was brought about by an accidental collision, then the appearance of organic life on this planet was also an accident and the whole evolution of man was also an accident. If so, then all our present thoughts are accidents. The accidental by product of the movement of atoms. This holds for the thoughts of the materialists and astronomers as well as for everybody else. But if there though are merely accidents, why should we believe any of them.” . . . “I see no reason that one accident should be able to give me a correct account of all other accidents.
Psalm 8:1-9
1 O Lord, our Lord, How majestic is Your name in all the earth, Who have displayed Your splendor above the heavens! 2 From the mouth of infants and nursing babes You have established strength Because of Your adversaries, To make the enemy and the revengeful cease. 3 When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, The moon and the stars, which You have ordained; 4 What is man that You take thought of him, And the son of man that You care for him? 5 Yet You have made him a little lower than God, And You crown him with glory and majesty! 6 You make him to rule over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet, 7 All sheep and oxen, And also the beasts of the field, 8 The birds of the heavens and the fish of the sea, Whatever passes through the paths of the seas. 9 O Lord, our Lord, How majestic is Your name in all the earth!
A) The evidence of the existence of God (vs 1-2)

B) God created the heaven and the earth in 6 days (vs 3-31; 2:1-2)
1) First day, God created the Light (vs 3-5)
3 Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. 4 And God saw that the light was good; and God separated the light from the darkness. 5 And God called the light day, and the darkness He called night. And there was evening and there was morning, one day.
2) Second day, God created the sky (vs 6-8)
6 Then God said, “Let there be an expanse in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters.” 7 So God made the expanse and separated the waters which were below the expanse from the waters which were above the expanse; and it was so. 8 And God called the expanse heaven. And there was evening and there was morning, a second day.
3) Third day, God created the land, seas, and fruit bearing plants (vs 9-13)
9 Then God said, “Let the waters below the heavens be gathered into one place, and let the dry land appear”; and it was so. 10 And God called the dry land earth, and the gathering of the waters He called seas; and God saw that it was good. 11 Then God said, “Let the earth sprout vegetation, plants yielding seed, and fruit trees on the earth bearing fruit after their kind with seed in them”; and it was so. 12 And the earth brought forth vegetation, plants yielding seed after their kind, and trees bearing fruit with seed in them, after their kind; and God saw that it was good. 13 And there was evening and there was morning, a third day.
